Latest Updates from Our Project:

New cardboard playing pieces for Britannia!
almost 5 years ago – Wed, Jul 17, 2019 at 05:26:55 PM

At PSC Games we love plastic miniatures, and we’re really proud of the 200+ miniatures we’re cramming into the box for our new edition of Britannia. From the feedback we’ve had so far, we know that plenty of gamers are excited by this too!

However, a few gamers have contacted us to explain that they’d prefer to play with cardboard counters for the armies and leaders, as used in previous editions of Britannia. We always try to listen to our backers’ feedback, so have put our heads together over the past couple of days and…

We’re pleased to announce that we will be making sets of cardboard counter armies available as an optional buy. These will be a Kickstarter Exclusive (not available through retail) and will cost £9.

To secure your own set of cardboard counter armies, click the 'Manage your pledge' button on the Kickstarter page and add £9 to your pledge. You will then be able to select the cardboard armies set when we send out our pledge manager survey after the Kickstarter campaign has closed.

One set will provide you with the correct number of card counter armies to play both Classic and Duel Britannia. If you buy a set, you can choose whether to play with the plastic miniatures included in the game’s box or the Kickstarter Exclusive cardboard counter armies.

Please note that you must add cardboard counter armies as an optional buy if you would like them – they are not included in the Britannia game box and are not automatically included in any pledge level.

Sneak preview of the miniatures!
almost 5 years ago – Wed, Jul 17, 2019 at 05:26:28 PM

We've had some resin casts of our miniatures made and knew you'd be wanting to see them!

These are uncoloured and made from resin rather the final plastic we'll be using, but they give a good idea of the size and style of our new Britannia minis. We think they're easily distinguishable on the board (we worked on the poses to ensure they all looked suitably distinct) and are looking great.

To give you an idea of size, the base width on the armies are 16mm, and 21mm on the leader. We've ensured they have a wide enough base to make them stable during play (nothing worse than the table getting a nudge and minis going flying - we can think of a few games guilty of that!).

Enjoy!

Stretch goal unlocked: Welsh/Rheged Cavalry miniature!
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 15, 2019 at 02:01:22 PM

Thanks everyone – the growing support on our campaign means that we’ve now unlocked an additional miniature. This will be a black Cavalry mini for Duel Britannia.

In Duel, there’s a cool mechanism to represent the British leader Arthur. The shadowy historical Arthur has been linked to various regions of the UK – most often the southwest, northern England, and Wales. But no-one really knows who he was or which kingdom he fought for (if he was real at all…). So in Duel, Lew has designed Arthur so that he appears for all three British nations: the Romano-British, the Welsh, and Rheged (northern Britons). In each nation turn, he appears with one Cavalry army and fights for that nation, then disappears. He then comes back to do the same for the other two nations.

Unlocking the black Cavalry army means that you can use the correct colour for each nation, rather than using the purple Romano-British Cavalry each time.

Next up on the stretch ladder is a plastic tray for the box…

Great news: Two early unlocks (you can thank the England cricket team for this!)

Carried away by England’s Cricket World Cup success yesterday – we’re big cricket fans at PSC Games – we’ve decided to unlock the next two stretch goals today.

You can thank the winning England cricket team for this, and also thank the New Zealand team who made the final such a fantastic match to watch!

So we’ve now unlocked the plastic tray to hold everything nicely in the box, and the Kickstarter Exclusive Arthur miniature! Enjoy!

Classic Britannia – what’s changed?
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 15, 2019 at 12:50:40 PM

In brief: Nothing rules-related but plenty components-related!

The rules remain unchanged from Lew’s last published version of Britannia. However, the game has changed cosmetically in various ways: most obviously we now have plastic miniatures, some of the components have changed, and we have all-new artwork throughout the game. We’re also including Lew’s all-new Duel Britannia game for two players – more on that in a later update.

One of the ‘changes’ you may notice – depending on which edition of Britannia you’re used to playing – is the player colours. This is purely cosmetic of course! We’ve reverted back to the original edition’s colours of purple/blue/black*/red. Why? It’s pretty simple really … that’s the version we first played so that’s how we think of the play colours (even when they became yellow, the Romans and Dubliners were always purple in our conversations). We thought hard about the green/black choice too, but knowing that colour-blind players most often find red and green the hardest colours to distinguish, we decided that was another tick in favour of using the original colours.

* We know that the very first printing used brown not black, although we’ve never played a copy of Britannia with brown counters! The first editions of the game that we’ve played all had black pieces.
